In the field of the second language acquisition, language transfer is a very important part. Language transfer can be divided into two aspects, which are positive transfer and negative transfer. Many researchers at home and abroad have done many researches about language transfer. English grammar is one of the most essential parts in English education of senior high school. However, how to improve students’ ability of mastering English grammar and avoid the influence of Chinese negative impact are still big problems. Therefore, the author is aimed at studying the effects of negative transfer on senior high students’ English grammar.This thesis mainly discusses two questions:(1) What effects does negative transfer of native language have on senior high school students’ English grammar learning?(2)What cause these English grammar errors? Subjects of this study are chosen from two classes of Senior One in No.4 middle school, including 155 students. Tools of study are questionnaire survey, English test and interview. After finishing the whole study, a lot of data need to be analyzed. The author finds that the effects of negative transfer on senior high school students’ English grammar are various. Those effects can be found in the aspects of syntax, morphology and expression. Errors in syntax account for 57.5% of the total errors. And the percentage of errors in morphology is 14.1%. The last 28.4% is the percentage of errors in expression. The causes of English grammar errors are various,which include intra-lingual errors, inter-lingual errors and some errors from other aspects.According to those existing problems, the author puts forward some suggestions to look forward to perfecting the English grammar teaching and providing references for others.
