With the continuous development of science and technology in China, academic research attracted more attention has been promoted to an important position. However, with the professional development of scientific research, there has been a fierce competition for scientific research resources, resulting in a number of academic misconduct in the current academic circles. The postgraduate was found as the main group to create academic misconduct.Therefore, to strengthen the ethical responsibility of the postgraduate in academic research will become another more important problem besides the problem about improvement of scientific research innovation ability.In order to find the causes of postgraduate academic misconduct, the paper discusses the practical and theoretical significance of the study starting with the harm of postgraduate academic misconduct, defining the concept of academic misconduct on the basis of analyzing the existing research status at home and abroad, and elaborating rational choice theory, social misconduct theory and social control theory used in this paper.In order to do better, the paper also conducts a case research in a university in Northeast of China, and sorts out several main types of academic misconduct nowadays: Fabricating,tampering with experimental data, unmarked the sources of supporting materials, plagiarism,and asking other people to write paper. The paper analyzes the causes of these behaviors through sociological theory. From the perspective of rational choice theory, postgraduate academic misconduct can be considered as a result that students rational choice for pursuing the maximum profit(to get a degree as soon as possible), and this is the result of the common function of personal survival reason and social reason. From the perspective of social misconduct theory,postgraduate academic misconduct can be considered as a result of the common function of individuals’ misconduct, family and schools’ misconduct and social misconduct. From the perspective of social control theory, postgraduate academic misconduct can be considered as a result of the lack of social control measures and the weakness of the control function.Based on the experience of foreign countries, the paper puts forward some countermeasures for the management of academic misconduct. First, it can enhance self-restriction mechanism from the perspective of postgraduate. Second, it can Improve the supervision system from the perspective of university. Third, it can build credit evaluation system from social perspective.This trinity normalizes postgraduate academic misconduct to reduce its incidence.
