With the progress of the times, the development of curriculum reform in China caters for the needs of modern society. At the time of paying attention to improve students basic knowledge and basic quality, cultivating students the spirit of innovation, the practical ability, personality, scientific and humanistic quality are emphasized. In China, new chemistry curriculum reform in high school shows the idea of the problem-based learning(namely PBL). In the PBL education model, students are the masters of the classroom, and teachers assist students to solve problems, as well as rethink and self-assessment, throughout reflect the new curriculum standards. On the basis of referring to large amount of literature the current states and progress of PBL teaching mode are given. The theory of PBL teaching mode is studied deeply and PBL teaching method is applied to the practice of teaching of chemistry to solve the problems that exist in the process of chemistry teaching. Taking sodium teaching for example the plan of teaching based on PBL is designed and implemented. During the study two classrooms of the middle school in a city are taken as the experimental objects. The methods of interviews and regression analysis based on spss2.0(statistical Product and Service Solutions) are used to analyze whether the PBL teaching mode has effect on the students’ chemistry score and the feeling of the teachers and students who take part in the experiment. The results show that when the PBL is applied to the chemistry teaching the students’ score is much higher and the interest, establish easy delectation, vivid classroom atmosphere is helpful for the development of the students’ comprehensive capability. A scientific and effective evaluation criteria of teaching high school chemistry plays an important role for the students, teachers and the school. The content in this paper aims at having a positive effect on chemistry teaching in the middle school, providing a reference for the front-line chemistry teachers and promoting high school chemistry curriculum reform.
