The new curriculum reform has been playing an important for more than ten years, so teachers’ teaching ability has also made great progresses, especially for English teachers,however, some inconspicuous teaching practical problems have increasingly important influence. Primary period is the initiation stage of English education, in which the pupils will be affected deeply by cultivating an interest, building self-confidence and create an emotional connection to English. The task to cultivate the pupils’ English autonomous learning ability is a new task, and to discuss this problem seriously is badly necessary to improve the interest of learning English, especially after the promulgation of the new curriculum reform. After receiving the two--year English elementary education, the high primary grade students are getting much better on making sure their learning objectives and controlling their emotion stable actively, which make it adjustable and flexible to study the English teaching.This paper mainly uses the methods of literature study, case analysis and investigation. Case analysis and questionnaire survey are working with the first-line, issuing questionnaires to the senior students of the F primary school in Shanxi Province, and interviewing substitute teachers. According to the investigation of the characteristics of the senior English class teaching, we analyze its existing problems, mainly including: the relationship between teachers and students is not very desirable; pre-class preparation is not well; classroom management efficiency is low and the class monitoring and evaluation does not reach the designated position; teachers do not keep pace with the times; the way of lesson preparation is single; classroom rules do not enjoy popular support and class testing evaluation is not taken seriously, etc.This paper analyzes the causes of these problems, and the specific causes are as follows: the teaching idea could not be updated in time; the teachers’ preparation work before class is insufficient; teachers lack ability of managing and organizing classroom, and classroom teaching evaluation standard. This leads to a variety of problems in English teaching for upper-grade elementary students, and cannot achieve ideal teaching results.In view of the problem existing in English classroom teaching for upper-grade elementary students, this paper puts forward the suggestions on primary school English classroom teaching strategies, specifically including: encouraging teachers to further study, making the idea of the teaching keep pace with the times; drawing teachers’ attention to the teaching material, students, teaching content; strengthening teachers’ intercollegiate exchange, and exploring the reasonable experience of classroom organization and management; establishing a scientific, reasonable and effective classroom evaluation system.
