According to River(1978),9% is devoted to writing,16% to reading,30% to speaking and 45% to listening. So we know that in language education it is essential to train the learners’ abilities of listening and speaking. But in the English class, we train students’ reading and writing. Even in the listening and speaking class, teachers just use the simple way to let students listen and imitate for several times. The content of upper grader is more difficult and contains more language points. The interests of learning English decrease.Game-based teaching is the combination of game and teaching. The paper, using the experimental approach, bases on the game-based teaching theory. The paper tries to use game to keep and arouse students’ interests in learning and help student develop their listening and speaking ability.The game-based teaching aims to distract the difficulties, ease the difficulty level, raise the learning interests and the quality of teaching. As a result, students will learn English in a relaxed atmosphere.This thesis is based on cognitive theory, second language acquisition and task based teaching. According to the connection between listening and speaking, this study aims to draw the conclusion through observing and analyzing the game-based teaching cases.The study is divided into six parts. The first part studies the theoretical and practical value, research contents and the paper structure. The second part is the literature review, the relationship between listening and speaking, research method, the definition of related concepts, the relevant game-based teaching theories. The third part is the objective, subjective and questionnaire. The fourth part, the games for upper grade students, the management of the classroom, and the feedback from teachers and students, the sample of game-based teaching, the principles of game design and apply. The fifth part is the summary and reflection.
