The classroom lead-in is the most basic step in the teaching. Although the proportion of lead-in activities is not large, its role can not be underestimated. A successful classroom lead-in can attract the attention of students, stimulate students’ learning interest and make students enter into the classroom atmosphere quickly, which helps to improve the quality of English teaching and realize teaching objectives. However, in fact, many English teachers do not attach importance to classroom lead-in or can not use the lead-in strategies effectively, thus affecting the classroom teaching efficiency. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to learn about the current situation of classroom lead-in in junior high school English teaching and find out the existing problems so as to put forward some effective suggestions. For this purpose, the author selected 11 English teachers and 123 students in Tianjin Meijiang High School as research subjects. The research instruments of the study include classroom observation and questionnaires. Firstly, through observing 25 English lessons and making records, the author learned about the real behavior and performance of the teachers and students during the classroom lead-in. Secondly, through the questionnaire survey of 11 English teachers and 123 students randomly selected from each grade, the author got some knowledge of the teachers’and students’ attitude and views. Finally, the author collected the data from the classroom observation and the questionnaire. Then the author analyzed the data statistics with Excel and SPSS software, which helps to draw the conclusion. The results show that some English teachers have not designed any classroom activities in the rush to finish the teaching task. Among the English lessons with classroom lead-in, the lead-in methods used by some English teachers lack diversity and flexibility. In addition, most English teachers lack the theoretical knowledge of classroom lead-in.From the results of the research, the author got the following inspiration:(1) In the practical teaching work, the teacher should strengthen the importance of classroom lead-in and design classroom lead-in as far as possible. (2) Teachers should adopt flexible and diverse lead-in methods in classroom teaching so as to optimize the practical effect of classroom teaching. (3) Teachers should constantly improve their theoretical attainment of classroom lead-in.
