As we all know that middle school English learning is the joint between the enlightenment of English learning and professional learning. And junior high school is the basic step of English learning, so the quality of junior high school English education plays an important part in the development of the students’ English learning interests and English abilitiesModern English education should realize the diversification of teaching and the students’ autonomous learning on the premise of guaranteeing the syllabus. Teachers don’t just teach the text book simply, they should be the designer of the learning process of their students. To make a practical learning plan for the students, we need to know about the learning situation of the students. Although there are some kinds of researches about this topic, the target students are not always the same. So, to analyze the learning situation of the students in our school, it’s not proper to use the results already existed. To know about the details of the students’ English learning, I chose the students I taught as the target students and analyzed the situation of the students’ after-school practice and the factors that might influence the students’ grades, ability and interests through the analyzing of the students’test grades, the collecting of questionnaire statistics, and interview. According to the results of the questionnaire survey and statistical analysis, students spend a lot of time to study English after school, but they don’t always get the ideal result; the time arrangements of English after-school practice are different between boys and girls; they are spending most of the time finishing their tasks given by their teacher; their ways of getting extra English learning resources are limited. Teachers cannot monitor the students’ after-school learning activities directly, so the only thing teachers can do to help improve the students’ learning efficiency is to optimize the after-school practice design. Teachers’ after-school practice design should be done under the guidance of the New Curriculum Standards, in the meantime, the design should give consideration to its pertinence, hierarchy, validity, openness and inclusiveness and be close to the English textbook and provide a solid foundation for the students’ further English learning. The design of English after-school practice should make effective use of time, increase teaching quality and lighten students’burden. Also, the design should make full use of all kinds of teaching resources, encourage the students to use what they’ve learned, and provide the students with a bigger learning platform.According to the results of the questionnaire survey and statistical analysis, I’ve read some related books, documentary and so on, combining with the teaching features of the New Curriculum Standards, a specific kind of "Semi-autonomous Selective" after-school practice was designed in this research, it encouraged the students to show themselves bravely with English according to their own interests and specialties. This can also reduce the amount of the students’ homework in some extent.
