According to the document made by the National Education Department, from the autumn of 2001 on, English will be taught in urban primary schools all over the country. From the autumn of 2002, English will be taught in rural primary schools, the starting grade is Grade 3. There is more than 10 years’history of English education in villages from 2002 on. It’s still less developed in rural area compared with the urban area because of the late starting and poor basis about the English teaching. Nowadays, China proposed the building of education equity, emphasis on rural education. So it’s necessary to take an investigation on the current teaching situation of English teaching in certain rural primary schools.The thesis is taken the Niuhe Primary School in Danjingkou as the study example. The thesis mainly uses the method of document analysis, participatory observation method, questionnaire survey, and interviews. The thesis consists of four parts:the first part of the introduction, mainly to discuss the research background, research significance, the status of domestic research, current situation of foreign research and research methods, reveals the necessary of primary school English classes and introduces the relevant national policies; the second part is about the theoretical basic research, mainly analyzes the importance of primary school English teaching; the third part:investigates the six factors which affect on rural primary school English teaching:English teacher, teaching method, teaching material, student, teaching resources and teaching evaluation method and then analyzes the cause of the problems; the fourth part:analyzes the status of rural primary school English teaching and put forward feasible countermeasures.
