A Research On Certificates Through Exams For College Students Based On The Perspective Of Rational Choice Theory

This passage will talk about the phenomenon of certificates obtainment in Guangxi G University,collecting information by analyzing cases,distributing questionnaires and giving interview to explore the current condition,characteristic,function and students’ rationality degree about this thing.First,I will elaborate this phenomenon and,on this basis,to analyze the evolution process of certificates obtainment which can be embodied into time and space dimension.The characteristic of this phenomenon includes group characteristic and behavior characteristic.Upon its social function,to individual and social group,one of which is that obtaining certificates can broaden knowledge,deepen educational and studying reform,promote the training industry and consummate the employment market system. However,it leads to not only a cultural capital devaluation and alienation of campus spirit but also a series of severe problems emerged like the owners will lend their certificates to a company so that the company do not need to take the exam,as well as certificate forgery,talent high consumption and Matthew effect in the industry.In the end,on the basis of the above analysis over this phenomenon,I will combine my view with Coleman’s rational choice theory to analyze students’ rationality about obtaining certificates from three aspects:survival ration,economic ration and social ration.In general,it seems rational for students to make their decision on acquiring certificates.However,we don’t exclude the possibility that some student will act irrational.If we want to effectively deal with the negative effect of certificates obtaining,more joint effort should be made over social control,enterprises person-employing,school guidance and individual activity, to improve the current situation and undesirable phenomenon.
