Nowadays, from the compilation of textbooks, most of the Chinese Textbooks in primary and secondary schools are literary works, from which we can deduce the objective existence of literature education in Chinese classroom. Literary education is an important part of Chinese education, but the literature education is not equal to Chinese education. Through literature research method and comparative research method, this article attempts to discuss and analyse the thought of literature education of seven famous educators named Xia Mianzun, Wu Yanyin, Li Jinxi, Hu Shi, Ye Shengtao, Zhu Ziqing, Zhang Zhi Gong in the 20th century, from which summarizes the characteristics and rules of literature education and Enlightenment for today’s Literature Education. This article is mainly divided into three parts:The first part is the introduction part. The introduction mainly introduces the research situation of literature education, the purpose and significance of this study, the research methods and the analysis of related concepts. The literature education is defined as a kind of activity that literary works are used as a teaching material in primary and secondary schools. This definition provides the basis and scope of the literature education thought for the seven Chinese educators.The second part is the first chapter and the second chapter. The main content is the content and method of literature education. In dealing with the contents of the literature education, famous educators of Chinese education mainly discuss Confucian classics, birds and animals’ language and vernacular fictions. Then they pointed out that the Confucian classics should not become curriculum content of primary and middle school students, birds and animals’ language and vernacular fiction should enter into the Chinese textbooks because they can stimulate students’ interest in learning, and put forward the literature material standard. In dealing with the method of literature education, famous educators of Chinese education proposed opinions from three aspects:Children’s literature teaching method, the teaching method of literary works form middle school Chinese textbook Chinese and teaching methods of extracurricular reading materials.The third part is the third chapter and the fourth chapter. The main content is the characteristics of literature education and the enlightenment to the modern literature education. Form the views of seven Chinese educators on literature education, we can summarize the characteristics of literature education. From the learner, literature education has the characteristics of the whole people and the experience. From the teaching method, literature education has the characteristics of reading and the combination of internal and external. The Enlightenment of modern literature education is mainly from two aspects, which is the inspiration for the compilation of Chinese textbooks and for the teaching methods of literature education.
