As the modern city, Nantong has its certain regional features in the development of middle school education. It can also reflect the common path of development about the national middle school during the period of the republic of China. In this paper, I will use the way of literature analysis, refer to details about each middle school of that time. Then explore different characteristics of the three time:before the time of the republic of China, from the republic of China founded to the year before 1927, from the Nanjing national government set to the year before 1937.During the development of Nantong middle schools, Nantong can make use of various resources generally to develop middle school education in all periods. It can establish private schools by the means of gentry; It can carry out the education experiment with the help of foreign experience; It can also promote the middle school development with the help of educational societies. It can always care for students, pay attention to PE and promote the all-round development of students. On the course,It always pay attention to combine the content and practice,and actively introduce famous teachers in. Of course there are also many shortcomings in appropriation allotment and regional development. But on the whole all these development experience left valuable wealth for us.
