Senior high school English classroom management refers to a variety of activities and measures senior high school English teachers take to use time effectively, create a good learning environment and reduce improper behaviors. English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(Trial Version)(2003) requires to develop students’ comprehensive ability to use language, which puts forward higher requirements and standards for senior high school English teachers. Although scholars at home and abroad have made a lot of researches on classroom management, they are often theoretical researches; researches on senior high school English classroom management are relatively rare.The research participants in this thesis are 30 English teachers and 300 students from two ordinary senior high schools in Yantai. Through questionnaires, interviews and practical classroom observation, the author investigates the present situation of English classroom management in senior high schools from English classroom environment management and English classroom discipline management. The three main research questions in this thesis are as follows:(1) What is the present situation of English classroom management in senior high schools?(including English classroom environment management and English classroom discipline management)(2) What are English teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards English classroom management in senior high schools?(3) What are the influencing factors of English classroom management in senior high schools?The author collects, analyzes and discusses the questionnaire data, interview records and classroom observation records and gets the following results: firstly, in English classroom environment management, most of the teachers and students ignore classroom layout and seating arrangement, students’ participation in classroom layout and seating arrangement are low. Moreover, most English teachers still have autocratic management in class, and the relationship between English teachers and students is indifferent. In English classroom discipline management, most of English teachers and students are aware of the importance of making classroom rules, but most of the students do not really take part in formulating classroom rules, and the making of classroom rules is lack of English characteristics. Moreover, in implementing classroom rules, most of the English teachers can do fair, but there are still many problems in dealing with classroom improper behaviors. Secondly, the majority of English teachers and students hold a positive attitude to English classroom management; they can realize the importance of English classroom management in English teaching. Thirdly, the influencing factors of English classroom management are the relationship between English teachers and students, teachers’ teaching methods and the ways of classroom management and students’ own qualities.Finally, the author puts forward corresponding suggestions after discussing the problems in English classroom management in senior high schools.
