Pose is the leading genre in Chinese textbook, and prose teaching has been the highlight of Chinese teaching. Prose reading is of great significance for the growth of the junior middle school students, it can cultivate the students’ reading ability, sensibility and imagination, it can also promote the students’ aesthetic ability, and accelerate the healthy development of students’ personality. In view of the important position and teaching function of the prose reading, my paper, on the basis of analysis of finishing, sums up the problems existing in the current junior middle school reading teaching of modern prose. To solve these problems, my paper put forward a strategy which determine the teaching target of prose reading. The teaching target is teaching activities to achieve the expected result, plays a important role of orientation, motivation, and evaluation. It’s the starting point and the ultimate aim of the teaching activities. The purpose of studying the prose teaching target is to better determine the teaching target and teaching content, thus to improve the effectiveness of prose teaching.This thesis includes four parts altogether.The first part is the introduction, put forward the research background, significance and main method; summarizes the current research situation of prose teaching, and defines the related key concepts of the thesis.The second part describes the present situation of modern prose teaching in junior high school, including compiling situation, the current teaching situation, as well as the problems of prose teaching target, which mainly focus on the statement, determination, and implementation of the teaching target, and analyzes the causes.The third part mainly explains the theory basis of determining modern prose teaching target, including prose and prose teaching theory, effective teaching theory, constructivism learning theory, and teaching objective classification theory, and so on. These theories provides us guidance how to design the prose teaching target.The fourth part is the focus of this article, which mainly discusses five strategies of designing the modern prose teaching target in junior middle school. Firstly, value the connotation of language, putting the language appreciation as knowledge and ability goal. Secondly, pay attention to the osmosis of emotion, putting affection education as the emotion-attitude-value teaching objective. Thirdly, attach importance to effective reading methods, putting reading method mastered as the process and method goal. Fourthly, take four gists into comprehensive consideration, namely curriculum, teaching materials, the text and learning. Fifthly, master the technologies of stating goal, including four basic elements of statement, and three ways of target presentation.
