Clay pottery is a part of the art teaching in primary school, and it is clay pottery teaching,an indispensable means to carry out art education, can enable primary school pupils to experience the fun of modeling, and gradually form the basic modeling capability. It is a good way to improve the comprehensive quality of students as well as their knowledge and skills.In order to answer the call of the national policy and New art curriculum standard of compulsory education, some primary schools of Chongqing have opened the clay pottery courses though the existing fine arts teaching materials are not good enough. But many schools have not set up clay pottery class because of lack of the teacher. The author of the present paper has collected some of teachers’ teaching experience of primary schools in Chongqing which opened pottery course, so as to do a research on primary school pottery teaching. It is intended to provide a new perspective for the study of primary school pottery teaching, as well as helpful reference and guidance for future pottery teaching.This paper mainly employs the methods such as interview and questionnaire to survey pottery curriculum of primary school. Collected is the data of the respondents’ pottery teaching experience, in which the basic situation of the development and implementation of the pottery courses can be seen. The purpose of this research is to discover the pottery teachers’ valuable experience from the data.The research on teaching experience of primary school teachers of pottery course in Chongqing mainly concentrates on the following aspects: 1) the method teachers use in teaching in the non-ideal situation; 2) How teachers implement their teaching plan, including the course setting, the choice of content, the teaching time distribution, teaching methods selection, and evaluation. To be more specific, greater attention is focused on the method of teaching to cultivate students’ observation ability, thinking ability, creativity and good habits;3) The combination of the Compulsory education art curriculum standards(2011 Edition) andthe teaching experience of clay pottery teachers in primary schools to carry out practical exploration. Suggestions are offered for the further development and improvement of the current primary school clay pottery teaching.
