In 2001, the Ministry of education of China launched a new round of curriculum reform for basic education officially. The replacement of the teaching syllabus with the curriculum standard is the highlight of the curriculum reform. The quality of curriculum standards will affect the effectiveness of curriculum reform. On June 2nd 2010, the Council of Chief State School Officers(CCSSO) and National Governors Association Center(NGA center) have released a state-led curriculum standard for English language and arts---the Common Core State Standards for English and Arts(CCSS for ELA). The establishment of CCSS for ELA makes the development of the curriculum for mother tongue in America enter a new historical stage, and it also brings implications and suggestions for our Chinese curriculum standard.This thesis is designed to analyze the Common Core State Standards for English language and Arts(grades 1-5 in primary school) comprehensively and deeply, using Documentary Research Method and Text analysis method, and try to draw some inspiration and provide some constructive suggestions for our Chinese curriculum standard to revise and improve.The thesis is structured in four chapters, mainly as follows:The first chapter, introduction. It involves the components of the research, namely background and significance of the research, the concept definition, the relevant studies in this field, the objective, the research content, the research idea and method.The second chapter, the background. To analyze the standard from a historical perspective, and present the background for CCSS for ELA, including the social background and educational background; and the process and the mechanism for it.The third chapter, a review on the text. To analyze the Common Core State Standards for English language and Arts(grades 1-5, in primary school) from four main parts: the key considerations, the framework, the goals and content and the assessment comprehensively and deeplyThe last chapter, implications and suggestions. Through the study of the standard, we can draw some implications for the improvement of our Chinese curriculum. In considerations, our Chinese curriculum standard can improve students language competence through the interdisciplinary approach, and our standard should strengthen the cultivation of pupils’ media skills; the framework should pay more attention to reading for grade 1 and grade 2 students, besides the objectives delineation should keep correspondent; on the goal and content, the Chinese curriculum should increase the informational text reading, and the oral communication field should adopt and specify group discussion; finally, in assessment, the Chinese standard can use separate evaluation project, and add task situation assessment and computer network evaluation to it.
