Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation studied the understandings, perceptions and implementation of the Common Core State Standards by elementary educators. The study outlined what was different about the new standards, why they were deemed necessary and how different educational researchers had responded to the standards. The teachers in this study were working to integrate the new standards with the previous standards. They demonstrated the difficulties presented during this task and shared the positive aspects as well through interview questions on their knowledge, perceptions and actions towards implementation. This helped develop insights on strategies that could be used by other educators and reform movements.
