It is definitely recommended in junior high school English curriculum standards to employ Task-based language teaching method. The tasks in the post-task period provides us a way to judge whether the teacher has a well-designed teaching as well as whether the students has reall y obtained what they learn in class. Therefore, the study on the design and implementation of the tasks in post-task period is important to English teaching and learning. In post-task periods, students can put language into use while their teachers can optimize their teaching through the implementation of tasks.The study focuses on the design and implementation of tasks in post-task periods. By analyzing the questionnaires, class observation records and case studies, the writer tries to optimize the design and implementation of tasks in post-task periods. Teachers are supposed to follow some specific principles and make good co-ordination arrangement of the design and implementation of tasks in the post-task period.The study includes six parts. Firstly, it will introduce the background, meaning and the main focus of the research. The second part is about the notions of post-task periods and classroom tasks. It will also focus on some relevant theories and research on tasks home and abroad. In the third part this paper will focus on the main methods adopted in this research. The fourth part is mainly about the questionnaire about the present state of the tasks of the post-task period in Shanghai NO. 3 Girls’ Middle School. In the fifth part, the paper comes into classroom observations. The sixth part will focus on some suggested principles by analyzing the results of the questionnaire, classroom observations and case studies.Through the questionnaire, classroom observations, case studies and some brief interviews, this study tries to give suggestions on principles to be followed while designing and carrying out tasks in post-task periods in junior high school. Hopefully, the study will help teachers improve and optimize their teaching.
