Extracurricular reading can promote students’ cognitive, emotional and intellectual development, and then shape the spiritual world of people, the real education from you to lead children into the books. After class reading is an important way to expand the knowledge, enrich the spiritual world and enhance the cultural quality of primary school students, and extracurricular reading can improve students’ creative thinking ability and language expression and application ability. Therefore, more and more teachers and parents pay attention to the extracurricular reading. The new curriculum standard the reading is placed in an important position, clearly let students do less exercise, to spend more time reading, love reading, read good books, adhere to read the whole book, teachers should pay attention to the cultivation of students’ interest in reading, enrich the reading quantity, expand the reading, cultivate noble taste in reading. The new curriculum standard explicitly requested the stage of primary school extracurricular reading is not the total less than 1.45 million words, thus extracurricular reading is important for the growth of primary school students.This study takes the Affiliated Primary School of Hunan University as an example, using the method of case analysis, interviews and other methods to investigate the basic situation of primary school students’ extracurricular reading. First of all, through the existing research literature to comb, in order to understand the current domestic and foreign students in extracurricular reading. Then, deeply attached primaryschool to carry out the investigation, investigation content involves the extracurricular reading status of form, extracurricular reading course setting, the construction of reading environment, students in extra-curricular reading etc. four aspects, and finds out the affiliated primary school extracurricular reading problems. After long-term observation analysis lead to the root cause of the problem of extracurricular reading. For reading in individual and collective disjointed problem, put forward to pursue a combination of reading by collective and individual practice, the expectations should be combined with students collective reading and individual reading. To create a "family, school and society as a whole atmosphere for reading, build a combination of collective and individual extracurricular reading evaluation system, the establishment of the communication mechanism between reading in individual and collective. Finally, this research looks forward to the development trend of the future primary school students’ extracurricular reading collective and individual.
