“Education is a fundamental task for the coming generation”. Education is a great career to cultivate talents and school is the place where the education is performed. The physical education(P.E.) in the university is a special major, which cannot be replaced by other subjects and is an integrated part in the higher education.Since 1949, P.E. has been the core major in the Sports Department and supported its building and development, which has cultivated a number of qualified P.E. teachers and made great contribution to the education. The P.E. workers in the future should not only have the professional knowledge but also the clear judgment to the right and wrong, social responsibilities, professional moral and sense of models. It is an essential part of contemporary P.E. to strengthen the humanistic quality. However, the cultivation of P.E. students pays too much attention to the sports technique and overlooks the humanistic education in China, which causes the lack of education in society, history, culture, arts and so on, and formal education in the life view, values and world view. Such problems make the talents cultivated in the university not in line with the requirements in society.The research purpose of this paper is to explore why the students majoring in P.E. have lower humanistic quality from inner and external reasons including four aspects—enrollment management, cultivate objective, curriculum arrangement, talents cultivate orientation and social requirements, and the solutions to this problem. By means of the contrast, this paper finds out the drawbacks of the solutions, which provides the innovative suggestions and effective ways to improve the humanistic quality of students majoring in P.E. in China.The research object of this thesis is the humanistic quality of students majoring in P.E. in Hebei’s universities, which adopt such research methods as literature collection, questionnaire survey, interview to experts and logical analysis. The paper summarizes the students’ current humanistic condition and influencing factors in the view of the specialties of P.E. The research analyzes the humanistic quality in four aspects—humanistic knowledge, humanistic behavior, humanistic method and humanistic spirit via books(related to sociology, sport philosophy, school P.E., humanistic education and P.E.), questionnaire and interview. The improvement of humanistic quality is of great theoretical and practical significance for the graduates to adapt to the further education, employment situation, and develop a healthy, positive, harmonious and green life style.The research conclusions are as follows:1.The university students majoring in P.E. have relatively weak awareness of humanistic education, low level of humanistic quality with unbalanced development.2.According to the survey, students knows about a little knowledge on humanities and social science, have narrower range of knowledge with weak foundation, and lack reading habit; Students have better performance in the aspect of humanity behavior, which is proven by the good interpersonal relationship and proper manners; Students are willing to improve self-quality but lack some executive ability; Students shows severe utilitarianism and pragmatism and have no devotion spirit. In spite of basic judgments to the right and wrong, students do not have the clear or stable life views and values.3.There are several reasons for such problem, which include students’ humanistic foundation and learning awareness, teachers’ behavior, curriculum arrangement, teaching methods, the performance of humanistic education, social environment and Internet technology, etc.4.It requires the common efforts of student, university and society to improve the humanistic quality. To be specific, to change the education concepts and combine the professional education with the humanistic education; to increase the literal arts scores of university entrance exams; to create harmonious environment in the university and society, publicize humanistic knowledge and create humanistic learning atmosphere; to adjust the curriculum arrangement and increase the proportion of literal arts; to enhance the teachers’ professional moral and further education, innovate the teaching methods, integrated the humanistic spirit with the professional teaching; to strengthen the students’ humanistic awareness, develop the innovative spirit and initiative learning ability.
