Mianzi:a Trust Building Mechanism

In this paper, a case study approach to the Chinese people trust established by observation and in-depth understanding of the process, to explore the logic and consequences on Mianzi as a Chinese people trust building mechanism. The paper can be divided into four parts, a total of 7 chapters.The first part poses problems and reviews the theory or the firms, including the chapters 1-2.In today’s China, trust crisis has become a social fact that the public worried about. This paper attempts to depart from the Chinese local psychosocial and behavioral concepts through case studies and analysis, summarize and present the Chinese Mianzi how to become a trust building mechanism and its possible consequences. Through the Chinese and the Western trust, especially the meaning of interpersonal trust and establish mechanisms careful combing and analysis, can be found in the Western academia and the establishment of mechanisms for the trust implications of the study focused on three dimensions:self-oriented; relationships oriented; structure oriented. Chinese scholars think the problem with local view. But the shortcomings are obvious, the western scholars subject to different theoretical approaches and limitations of different cultural characteristics, Chinese scholars still use the Western theoretical perspective, ignoring the possibility of local community as a trusted psychological and behavioral mechanisms.The second part discusses the part of the research methods and research framework, including Chapter 3. According to the theory points to the problem, in-depth study of trust, especially the meaning of interpersonal trust and establish the underlying mechanism, the paper qualitative research method based on the case, by understanding and description of the case, trying to explore the Chinese people the core of social psychology and behavior-"Mianzi" as a mechanism of how the Chinese people trust. This part focuses on the reasonableness of the research methods and describes the research framework.The third part is a case study section, containing Chapters 4-6. Through the presentation and analysis of the case and found that Sociological expression of Mianzi is "reputation." In China, the Chinese people maintain their lives in the Guanxi net. Chinese derive the face through constructing the reputation in the Guanxi net and then get a lot of social resources. The Chinese people get Mianzi through the Guanxi net, his Mianzi is also reflected in the Guanxi net. A man always have good reputation and Mianzi by keeping high degree of credibility, he can be trust easier, which is a way to explain the Trust Building Mechanism of Chinese people. This paper further reminds formalist tendencies of Mianzi that the Separation between the Name and Reality makes trust not stable. It also constitutes a perspective of China’s trust crisis.The fourth part is the conclusion and the shortage, including Chapter 7. The theoretical approach of this paper will be reviewed. And the shortcomings of research method, case choices, and theoretical analysis are also viewed in this part.
