Study On City Image Space And Influence Factors Of Nanjing

Studies on city image in the process of rapid urbanization will help to highlight urban features and sharpen city’s competitiveness. Since the late twentieth Century, China urbanization level has improve greatly. This is not only an "outbreak", but also a "big failure" for china. Because of the rapid development of physical space, city characteristic disappeared, urban planning was more homogenous, city feature, even city image showed fracture and deficent. Nanjing, located in the southwest of Jiangsu Province, is the provincial capital of Jiangsu Province, the national regional center city, the first group of famous chinese historical and cultural cities. Until 1990, Nanjing still remain a unique and implied city landscape. However, Nanjing has not immuned to the 1990 economy awash impact,and Nanjing city image has been destroyed in part. Of course, in the urbanization process Nanjing also cultivate some new factors, for example,the Olympic Sports Center, Zifeng mansion,and add some new images for Nanjing. In the process of modern city construction, Nanjing also cultivate some new factors with high awareness, such as the Olympic Sports Center, Zifeng building。Based on the theory of city image, the build up area of Nanjing City was chosen as the study area,this paper transform Nanjing image factors into the place name statement,and study the image of Nanjing city by the questionnaire method. Based on the impression score of district、landmark、node、road、edge, through the GIS software,this paper can get the Nanjing city image map,and analyze the characteristics of urban image spatial layout of Nanjing. Based on this, by evaluation of image factors, this paper will get matrix of impression-evaluation, this will give specific advice on strengthen the city characteristics, mining city culture, remediation city environment. Finally,this paper will identify the demographic factors affecting the formation of interviews’ city image.The main results are as follows:(1) Surface features mostly distributed in main city were selected as objects reflecting Nanjing’s city image,most person consider the Yangtze River and the ring road surrounding the main urban area is the boundary of Nanjing. Due to the improvement of urban transportation a few features located outside the main city were also chosen, indicating the enlargement of the ’city’ scope perceived. The Yangtze River acts as a barrier in the construction of city image in which the region to the south of it is considered to be the scope of city image but the region to the north is not. There are many different between Liuhe and the main urban area, not only in the material form, also in the public consciousness.The residents at Liuhe lack a sense of belonging, the traditional Nanjing citizens also exist barriers to them.(2) According to the matrix of impression-evaluation, we can improve the evaluation level of image factors from the following aspects. first of all,as an ancient capital,Nanjing should enhance awareness of historic heritage conservation, and city characteristics protection. Secondly, it is necessary to improve city management, and ensure the order of the whole city, especially the bus station, Jianning Lu, Zhujianglu Road. Third,city construction should have a more reasonable and more long-term planning,especially in the road construction,to minimize the road demolition、reconstruction and congestion phenomenon caused by unreasonable planning. Finally, taking Liuhe Industrial Park as the focus, we should improve the Industrial Park upgrade.(3) Research show that the age, identity, dwelling history, education status, income level and transportation vehicle frequently used were identity to be factors significantly influencing on the Nanjing city image and region, landmark, node and road images; The gender only has significant effect on road image; vocation has significant effect on node and road images, the nodes and the road images of company employees and businessmen are much higher than other occupation; but the residence place do not has significant influence on city image.
