The cultivation of reading literacy embodies the concept of lifelong learning and sustainable development, which is also the basis of other subjects, especially in language education. In the field of English teaching, reading teaching has always been an important part of English teaching. According to the new curriculum reform in compulsory education stage, the requirements of students’ reading ability have been improved a lot. In the high school entrance exam, reading test plays a more and more important role, which makes the status of reading teaching become increasingly important. However, due to the current problems of reading teaching in junior high school, there still exist many drawbacks. For example, the concept of teachers has not been completely changed. Therefore, this research tries to use cognitive tools in reading teaching in order to build an efficient teaching mode which is in accordance with the law of language study. As a result, the author puts forward to improve students’ reading ability by means of thinking guide map.This research is about the application of the mind map in junior high school English reading class to improve junior high school students’ reading literacy. The research selects two classes of Grade 8, Guangzhou No.47 Middle School, 86 students in total, taught by the author as subjects, using questionnaires, experiments and reading tests to collect data, analyze data. In the end, the author makes a comparative analysis of the pre and post test data with the help of SPSS17.0 software, and find out that the experimental class which uses the mind map in reading teaching has a significant difference from the control class using traditional teaching method. The research results show that, through the use of mind mapping in English reading class, the students can deepen their understanding of the mind map and reading strategies, change the students’ reading attitude and reading habits, improve their reading speed and accuracy of reading. |
