Higher order thinking(HOT) ability is a kind of high levels of cognitive ability which concretely refers to the abilities of analysis, comprehension, evaluation and creation. The new curriculum standard for Biology teaching at high school emphasizes on improving students’ scientific literacy. One who is equipped with scientific literacy should have the HOT ability. At the same time, nowadays society’ s demands for our candidate also need our teacher to train students ’ HOT ability. In order to find out the current situation of high school teachers’ training students of HOT ability, so as to achieve the teaching goal of developing students’ HOT ability in the process of giving lessons, this study focus on “the teaching of Biology for promoting the development of HOT ability of high-school students”,the main results are as follows :Firstly, the HOT ability has been systematically studied abroad, however, the domestic study on it is still in its infancy.Secondly, high school students’ thinking development exist the characteristic of poor initiative, severe mind-set,etc.Thirdly, classroom teaching has important influence on high school students’ HOT ability development, but teachers’ knowing about this was not enough.Fourthly, we can adopt such teaching models as SSI(Socio-scientific Issues) teaching, project teaching and the topic teaching to improve students’ HOT ability in Biology teaching at high school.Fifthly, to study the influence of HOT ability teaching on the development of the high school students’ HOT ability,a comparative study was conducted between HOT ability model teaching(the experimental class) and traditional model teaching(the control class). The results showed that the teaching method for promoting HOT ability was able to effectively improve the students’ learning interest, stimulate their learning motivation, and enhance the students’ analytical ability, synthetic ability, evaluation ability, and critical ability. Those results indicated that the teaching way of promoting the development of HOT ability of students really works in training senior high school students’ HOT ability.
