With the rapid development of science and technology, we have entered an era which requires that every citizen has a certain degree of information literacy and processing capability. Information technology(IT) education is widely used to improve the students’ information literacy and enable them to adapt to the modern information society. Educators pay more attention to the teaching of IT. However, in practice due to several factors such as the out-of-date curriculum content, the single teaching approach, the lack of teaching resources and the low teaching efficiency in middle school, this sector is facing a dilemma. Student engagement with information technology is often low, and the learning levels in students are different meaning that it is difficult to improve the IT literacy goal of students. Microlectures were developed as a new teaching resource in response to the publics demand for more convenient learning tools. These lectures provide many features such as, highlighting the theme of the presentation, offering clear learning objectives, the flexibility to participate at any time and interactivity with the lecture. The development of the microlecture has changed the traditional teaching approach. Rather than the teacher lecturing directly to the students, microlectures forces the students to become the main body in the teaching mode, mobilizing the enthusiasm and participation of the students. It can also meet the various demands of students, while also providing an opportunity for the implementation of information technology in the classroom. This study will focus on the application of the microlecture in the teaching of information education in high school. The implementation of the microlecture aims to redress the existing problems in information education as outlined previously.Literature methodology was conducted, using the constructivism theory, learning theory and Pyramid master learning theory as a guide, to collect and study the relevant literature and references. It was found that the pool of microlectures used in junior middle school information technology teaching is still relatively small, and that there was a lack of research and analysis around the use of microlectures in teaching; therefore this is a field that could be further developed. In this study, problems related to how information technology is taught in junior middle school were identified, and microlectures were designed according to the subject features and the characteristics of the students. The microlecture developed, "Research on the effect of form of heterogeneous classes", was taught to junior middle school students. Over the course of the microlecture, the advantages and disadvantages of the teaching session were recorded for further analysis.Feedback from students and teachers demonstrated that microlectures and the development of this new teaching resource was welcomed and recognized as beneficial. The microlecture format was shown to have many advantages, such as stimulating students’ motivation, improving the degree of classroom participation and cultivating autonomous learning ability. It has a great practical significance and research value on verifying the benefits of the application of microlectures in teaching.
