With the deepening of senior high school curriculum reform, various studies focusing on senior high school mathematics teaching and learning have been carried out, which has provided theoretical reference and guidance for senior high school math teaching. Being a front-line teacher, I have three years’ math teaching experience during which I was forced to face and contemplate a common phenomenon long existed in high school math teaching that there is not much difference between boys and girls in math performance in primary and junior high school but in the senior high school, girls’ math performance lags far behind the boys with boys’advantage in math being even more obvious in higher grades. For many education workers and parents, this phenomenon is confusing and incomprehensible. It has even become a problem that can’t be thoroughly solved. To some extent, math performance has even become a factor that affects girls’ comprehensive quality and overall performance in senior high school. So this serious problem poses a new challenge for each education worker. Under this circumstance, it is of great necessity to explore the difficulties met by girl students in math learning and the corresponding countermeasures, which could not only improve girl students’ math quality and math performance but also promote teachers’ theory and practice study so as to update teachers’ teaching concept and help create effective classroom. In the present study, with the help of literature information, the author first made a comparison analysis between senior high school boys and girls in such aspects as physiology, psychology, thinking, environment, etc. Then the author employed questionnaire survey and interview record to explore the factors leading to the gap between boys and girls in math performance from different perspectives. Finally, the author proposed corresponding strategies on how to improve senior high school girl students’ math performance based on the features of math and the author’s own psychological knowledge in math. Through the present research, it is hoped that education workers could obtain some enlightenment to effectively improve high school math teaching in the future.
