In July, 2001, the Ministry of Education of our country published the National English Curriculum, which stipulated the English teaching in middle school should change the situation that focused on teachers, and it also stipulated during the English teaching inspiration and discussion should be carried out actively to motivate the interests of learning of students, develop the ability to think by themselves and improve the comprehensive language using ability. In recent years, many learners from home and abroad have found topic teaching model is useful to motivate the interests of learning of students, improve the comprehensive language using ability and help the students to develop the ability to learn by themselves. In this research, topic teaching model will be applied to English teaching of junior middle school to solve those problems that teaching is inefficiency and students are short of language using ability. Meanwhile this model will also help to give some advice and strategies about improving the students’ comprehensive language using ability and developing the ability to learn by themselves.In this thesis, a series of methods are selected, such as questionnaire, interview, experiment, test, data analysis and so on. In addition, network resources, library resources and a variety of software are also used. After comprehensive search and sorting out of literatures and materials relevant to the teaching model of stratified learning plan, the author carries out in-depth analysis of relevant literature and achieves a thorough understanding of the research status quo of the subject; in addition, from the perspective of theories, she sets forth the feasibility of the teaching model of stratified learning plan in English class of senior high schools. The author selects two normal classes taught by her, and conducts a comparative experiment by using the topic teaching model. In the process, students’ behavior in learning is recorded and the whole teaching procedures are traced. Before and after the experiment, questionnaires and interviews are done for the purpose of gathering the students’ subjective evaluation for topic teaching model. Finally, the author will collect and analyze data.The conclusions show that topic teaching model can optimize the environment of language learning, create the platform of listening and speaking for students, improve the teaching efficiency and help the students develop the language using ability. Therefore, the author suggests the teachers of junior middle school should learn and master topic teaching model. Then they set up reasonable topic to motivate the interests of learning of students, create the platform of the interaction of language, and improve the comprehensive language using ability.
