With the development of our society, it is historically important and realistically significant to master a foreign language like English well.English is one of the world’s most widely used languages, which is the medium of communication in many international occasions. Also, it has become an indispensable bridge in the continuous process of China’s integration with the whole world both in social life and economic activities. At present, China has begun popularizing English education at the primary stage; for middle school students, English is an important compulsory course which is recognized by both teachers and students, and its achievements will affect the guidance of students to some extent.The ultimate goal of learning English is to communicate, and the vocabulary is the basis of English. The English Curriculum Standard for the Senior Middle School is aimed at cultivating students learning strategies as one of its five development objectives. The obvious difference between The English Curriculum Standard for the Senior Middle School and the English Teaching Syllabus lies in the increasing demand for vocabulary,For high school students,the key to learn English well is to master vocabulary.However, in high school English teaching,learning vocabulary is a difficult task.Therefore,how to improve the efficiency of the students English vocabulary learning is a problem to which both the masses of teachers and students pay attention.These years,many researchers have done much work in improving vocabulary both at home and abroad. These studies were of great value for most students to improve English vocabulary but of small use for middle school students in China.So this thesis,based on the teaching experiment,attempts to examine the efficiency and inflexibility of English vocabulary learning strategies in high school students. The experimental participants are 120 students in Yanan Middle School of Yanan City, Shanxi.They are divided into two classes,an experimental class(60 students)and a control class(60 students).Began the research,one questionnaire was administered. From the results of the questionnaire,the writer found that few students had the necessary strategies in learning vocabulary.Only after the training,have they become aware of vocabulary learning strategies.In the twelve weeks’ English vocabulary teaching,the traditional English teaching model is applied to the control class while English vocabulary learning strategies are introduced to the experimental class.For the purpose of comparison,two tests are carried out before and after the experiment in the two classes.The test shows that the students’ vocabulary learning ability is improved, and the average of the score increased nearly 1.5 points.The research results show that vocabulary learning strategies can improve the speed of requiring vocabulary score, improve the students’ application frequency of the English vocabulary learning and improve the ability of using English as well.
