With the implementation of the national family planning policy in the late 1970 s, the continuous development of social economy, the one-child family began as a product of the policy implementation, core-families gradually become the main family form of our society. Once the only-child accidently dies, the whole family structure will collapse, living parents alone with huge psychological trauma. This paper is based on literatures about “Shidu family”, it is found that in China there are not so many scholars studying the “Shidu family”,especially in psychological dimention. Based on this feature, the paper selects the mental adjustment for“Shidu family”as an case intervention.This paper takes “Shidu family” as the research object of its own, organizes the existing literatures of “Shidu family”. With the help of the association for the advancement of social work in hebei province, finally takes “A” family in Xinhua district, Shijiazhuang city, Hebei province as an example. This family’s main problem epitomizes psychological trauma, especially the mother, so, based on the characteristics of this case, uses the Empowerment Theory for the analysis, intervention and treatment of this case work, discusses problems that social workers help these families to solve, their purpose and Empowerment effect in every case treatment, makes every effort to ease these families’ inner wounds, gets them back to the normal social life.At the end, the article gives summary and professional reflection about this case work and the use of Empowerment Theory, tries to find the starting point of social work’s intervention to the “Shidu family”. That makes a certain practical significance to strengthen the government and society’s concern about the “Shidu family”, explore some effective methods to relief their psychological trauma, and at the same time makes a certain theoretical significance to enrich the research contents of “Shidu family”s mental adjustment, expand social work research, deepen the research aspects of the social work intervention strategies for the disadvantaged group.
