Ideological and p olitical theory teachers of higher leaning institutions undertake the great resp onsibility of cultivating college students to set up the correct outlook on world, life and values. Along with the further strengthening and deepening in ideological and political work in institu tions of higher learning, it proposes hig her demands for ideolog icaland political teach ers. The work of paying atten tion to and studying ideological and poli tical theory teachers’ professional identity has a far–reaching influence on ideolog ical and political education. Most ideological and political theory teachers show high approval to their own profession. But there are also some teachers who don’t agree with their profession, and it is this ph enomenon that the thesis is going to study.This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part explains the values and meanings of study in ideological and political theory teachers’ professional identity. It comprehensively enumerates some study examples of this question at home and abroad. And it gives an account of the innovations in key points and difficulties of this question.The second part discusses the theoretical basis of study in ideological and political teachers’ professional identity, including the basic connotation s and meanings of self identity, professional and the theory of teachers. And it also discusses the values and meanings of professional identity in ideological and political teachers’ professional development.The third part d escribes and analyzes the curren t situation and causes of ideological and political teach ers’ professional identity in active and negative aspects, especially the negative aspects, contai ning the questions and negative im pacts of professional emotion exhaustion, reduction in Marxism faith and lessening of personal sense of achievement and so on. As a result, these problems will weaken the teachers enthusiasm in ideological and political education, hinder their professional development and harm their physical and psychological health.The fourth part explores ways and methods to solve the problem of ideological and political teach ers’ lacking in profe ssional identity. The m easures include: eluminating social prejudices, enhancing ideological and political teachers social status, and keeping approriate expectations; colleges attaching importance to active leadingand cultivating of these teachers’ psychology; teachers strengthening their professional wills, alleviating their negative emotions such as anxiety, fatigue and etc.It depends on the joint efforts of the government, the whole society, institutions of higher learning and ideological and political teachers themsleves to solve the prob lem of the ideological and political teachers’ professional identity, and in this way, providing a favourably internal and external environm ent for these teachers’ professional identity. Therefore, ideological and political teachers can put their en ergy into the teaching and scientific research work, on the basis of a higher sense of happiness and achievem ent, with active mentality and sheer ehthusiasm.
