In this thesis, the Malaysian organization named Dongjiaozong is used as an object of the case study. Based on the analysis and research of its source materials, this paper has clarified Dongjiaozong’s development course since its establishment, and then probes into the development of the Chinese Education in Malaysia. On the basis of all the basic work, this paper tries to study the construction of cultural identity of Chinese ethnic group under the leadership of Dongjiaozong from the perspective of Chinese Education in Malaysia. The research of this thesis expresses that the relationship between the development of the Chinese Education under Dongjiaozong’s leadership and the construction of the cultural identity of Chinese ethnic group is two-way interaction. They are inseparable. In the 1970 s, Dongjiaozong revived and created a new wave of the Chinese education renaissance from the secondary to the higher. The cultural identity of Chinese ethnic group among the Malaysians was there upon rising high. Since 1990 s, Dongjiaozong started to reopen the independent schools and set up New Era Colleges. On the one hand, the establishment of the New Era Colleges has completed the education system of the Chinese Education in Malaysia which consists of the primary school, the Secondary School and the university, during that time, the cultural identity of Chinese ethnic group among the natives come to a stable stage; on the other hand, the cultural identity of Chinese ethnic group has impact on the different development of Chinese education under the leadership of Dongjiaozong in different time periods. In the Chinese Education in Malaysia, other than the Chinese primary schools, the establishment and development funds of independent Chinese secondary schools and the Chinese universities all come from the support of the ethnic Chinese community. It is with the generous contribution of the Malaysian Chinese who identify with the ethnic group culture for the Chinese Education that the revival of the independent schools and the setting up of the New Era Colleges are promoted. With the different understanding of cultural identity among the individuals of Chinese Education in Malaysia, and the internal contradictioncaused by the individual benefits in recent years, the developments of Chinese Education inMalaysia and development of cultural identity of ethnic group are filled with challenges except for the government’s suppression. In the long-term, the Chinese Education in Malaysia still hassurviving and developing space.Dongjiaozong will as well continue to play the role of resistance and maintaining the Chinese Education in Malaysia.
