The teaching material has been blooming and contending further since the 21st century. The textbook reform seems to be exciting. But potential problems are growing more prominent of which varying qualities of textbooks draw most attention. To improve the quality of textbooks means to improve the quality of the selected text. Many scholars focus on the issue how to improve the quality of selected texts. After China carried out reform and open policy, researches on textbooks of primary and secondary school has increased and achieved some success. Meanwhile, text processing, the key to the quality of selected texts, gets less attention. At the same time, the novel often is neglected in the actual teaching although it is emphasized in the curriculum standard. So it is significant to carry out a study on the text processing in Chinese textbooks and its impact on teaching through processing of selected novels on the Chinese textbook of People’s Education Press.By the author of this article six novels in compulsory textbooks of PEP are analysed to give an overview of selecting and processing of novels, and to state the motivation, methods, purpose and meaning for those novels. The author also describe the charm of original novels thus to find advantages and disadvantages to processing novels. On the basis of the founding, the author analyses the pros and cons of the selecting and processing of article. Finally, the author explore available teaching strategies for the selected and processed article in the teaching of high school.
