In the study of teachers’professional development, it can be found that academic attention has been paid to teachers’ professional knowledge all the time. As for primary and secondary school mathematics teachers, exploring the effective approach to improve their attainment of professional knowledge is a subject that lots of mathematics education researchers have paid continuing attention to for a long time. Those teachers should have not only a certain depth of expertise, but also extensive knowledge of mathematics, so that they can understand the subject from a higher and broader perspective and teach students better and more effectively.In order to transversely extend the extent of self-mathematics knowledge, mathematics teachers should acquire a great amount of expansive knowledge. On the basis of collecting and sorting out numerous examples of mathematics expansive knowledge, this paper is illustrated in the following four aspects with methods like literature research, case study and investigation and research. Firstly, connotation of mathematics expansive knowledge is defined, and feature and function of that are pointed. Secondly, specific approaches to extend subject knowledge of teaching materials are proposed from three aspects, namely conception, conclusion and solution. Thirdly, from the perspective of teachers’ professional development, four strategies of acquiring mathematical expansive knowledge are presented. Lastly, through some interviews, current situation of practical mathematics teachers’ expansive knowledge is obtained, and some suggestions for developing are put forward.
