It is very important for Chinese English learners especially the students in junior high schools to write English articles well. And with the reforms pushed forward in English education in China, more and more English teachers in junior high schools attach importance to the improvement of the students’ English writing ability. However, the English writing teaching is not effective because the teachers usually teach English writing with product approach which is based on the level of sentences and emphasizes grammars, structures and mechanical imitation. As a result, according to the author’s surveys, the students’ attitudes toward English writing are negative and they are usually low motivated.However, Process approach considers writing as a complex and cycling process which consists of cognitive psychology, the creating of thinking and social interaction. It considers writing as an activity of social communication and improving writing through a series of consulting and interactive activities. And the research’s aim is to explore the effective using of process writing approach to improve the students’ writing ability and then improve the effect of English writing teaching. The research is carried out in the Second Junior School attached to Qinghai Normal University and with the teaching materials in Go for it!It takes about 5 months to do the research in Grade Two. And during the research, the experimental class is taught with process writing approach while the controlled class is taught with product approach. The research is taken with the instruments of questionnaires, experiment, observation and the test. And after the research, the author gets the following findings: 1) Compared with product approach, process writing approach is better to improve the students’ cooperative ability and their creative ability. 2)Teaching with process writing approach during English writing class can make the students in China’s junior high schools more interested in English writing and help them maintain effective English writing strategies, which in turn, can improve their English writing ability. 3)With process writing approach, optimizing the concrete teaching design is helpful to enhance the effect of the English writing teaching.Though there are some positive results from the research, the research still needs to be perfected because of the limited research subjects, time and the author’s own theory level. And the English teachers should use the process writing approach according to the concrete teaching contents and the situation to improve the effect of the English writing teaching.
