The three basic ideas of the new curriculum reform is focused on the growth of students, the development of teachers, and the promotion of “teaching scheduled by learning”. Whether the concept of the new curriculum, students, and teaches or the concept of textbooks, classroom and evaluation,they all put emphasis on the " student-centered " and focus on the training of students’ knowledge and skills,which truly accomplish “learning geography lively”. “High School Geography Standards( experimental)”(hereinafter all referred to as “class standard”) clearly defined the selection of teaching materials for teachers. Try the extent possible to choose examples of materials for high school students which they can understand and accept and also can reflect the characteristics of the times. The natural environment and human environment where students live contains a wealth of geographical knowledge, which has regional, geographic, and personalized features. Teachers don’t deliberately create situations. And through independent inquiry and cooperative learning students can organize and transform the existing knowledge, and build new awareness. On the other hand, in the process of learning hometown, students can complete the dynamic perception of local geographical knowledge, which can stimulate students’ interest in learning geography, develop students’ emotion of love for hometown and environmental awareness, and promote the inheritance of multiculturalism and the construction of the economy of hometown.By the access method of literature review, this study collected and organized the current status of researches in China and in foreign countries, thus determined the author ’s research and the theoretical support for this study. Then using questionnaires and interviews, it tried to understand the status quo of utilization of local geography curriculum resource of Xining. This study obtained available resources of local geography of Xining for geography teaching and categorized them by field survey methods. Finally, it found the appropriate way to develop by the use of literature analysis and propose the strategies of development.This study includes a total of five parts: introduction, theoretical foundation, survey of the the current situation and analysis of the influencing factors. The introduction includes the research background, significance of the research, the current situation of research, research methods and technical route.The first chapter, which served as the theoretical basis of this study, includes the author’s definition of relevant concepts and theoretical support of the learning theory of constructivism to the development of local geography curriculum resource. The second chapter used questionnaires and interviews to understand the status of the utilization of local geography curriculum resources of Xining and analyzed the influencing factor. In Chapter three,the author of organized the local geography resources of Xining, and found the appropriate way of development according to the characteristics of local geography, thus putting forward the strategy of the development of local geography. The conclusion gave some inspiration and outlook obtained by this study.
