Plateau phenomenon, a concept in educational psychology, means a phenomenon of temporary standstill or decline during the forming process of study or skill. It manifests steady state or decline to some extent in the growth curve. However, the curve will go on ascending after the plateau phenomenon is broken through. Nowadays the phenomenon has been quoted in a number of fields, but not attached importance to by Wushu scholars.Wushu academic "plateau phenomenon" refers to the martial arts in the process of academic research achievements of the quantity and quality, scale is stagnant or declining, scholars research methods lack of innovation and research content of low level repetition, the disconnection between theory and practice, academic atmosphere and lack of vigor and vitality and so on.Academic research achievements and knowledge innovation have a number of patters of manifestation, such as paper, treatise, patent and conference report. Compared with other patters of manifestation, academic paper, generally speaking, is regarded as the most intensive and rapidest publishing patter in scientific search achievements and important patter of manifestation of knowledge innovation. The core thought of many works, study, conference reports and results in the form of papers published in academic journals. Therefore, to study the problems and the development trend of the current situation of the development of the subject, research papers, the professional is the most efficient, especially in the core journals published papers often represent the forefront of academic development and the latest developments, its theoretical and practical value, but also the most representative. Therefore, the core journals contained in the martial arts as a sample for research, basically reflects the academic study of Wushu development present situation, existing problems and development trend.For the perspective of plateau phenomenon, taking Wushu and shadowboxing as the theme, the research takes 3165 papers published in Chinese core journal of Peking University and professional journals of Wushu from 1994 to 2013 as the object of study with the method of document literature, literature metrology, mathematical statistics and logical analysis and so on. It conducts analytical investigation with the combination of qualitative and quantitative research according to the number, quality, research contents, research methods, authors, academic controversy situation of martial arts and the development situation of journals of Wushu major. The research finds that academic research of Wushu experiences the stagnation from 1994 to 1999 during 20 years, rapid development from 2000 to 2009 and plateau phenomenon from 2010 to 2013.Data, such as few papers, small academic research groups, few fruitful authors, deficient innovation of research method from 1994 to 1999, basic methods, paper cited index then, M quotation, quotation number per paper, number of periodicals published, quotation number and quotation languages and so onshows that these paper are inferior. The number of paper from 2000 to 2009, author, and fruitful author increased greatly from more authors. These papers mirror and transplant research methods of other subjects martial in arts scientific research, therefore these papers are superior. The number of paper and writer from 2010 to 2013 were stagnant while research methods are not broken through and the paper quality was not improved even deteriorate.The academic research content and theme of Wushu are out of balance seriously. Wushuculture, teaching and development has been the research hotspot. The research of selection, nourishing of life, training, competition and industry orientation is less popular. Shadowboxing and shaolin boxing account for 97% in the schools of Wushuresearch. Generally speaking, shadowboxing takes nourishing of life and praying for well-being as its theme while shaolin boxing takes shaolin culture and shaolin industry as its theme. Therefore, other schools of Wushu research are almost forgotten.Academic research of Wushulacks academic contest and criticism. Schools of Wushu are like a hundred flowers in bloom but not contend. Some periodicals of Wushu discontinued while some turn to other fields. The situation are worse and worse. Theory and practice are not combined and research achievements cannot guide the practice efficiently. The thesis predicts that the paper number of Wushu and Wushuscience researcher will grow greatly, but entirely speaking, paper quality tends to be stagnant even decline. The plateau phenomenon of Wushu research still exists.As for the plateau phenomenon of Wushu research, the thesis put forward development countermeasures as follows, firstly, to improve the policy of professional title appraisal and evaluation system of scientific research level, secondly, promote the status of Wushu periodical, thirdly, to pay much attention to and carry out academic criticism of Wushu, strengthen academic criticism mechanism construction of Wushu and construct the subject system of criticism of Wushu gradually, fourthly, strengthen course reform of Wushu and add traditional culture, such as philosophy and traditional Chinese medicine and so on, fifthly, improve enrollment and graduation system of master and doctor of Wushu.The thesis analyzes the academic research plateau phenomenon of Wushu and its reason, then puts forward some measures to break through plateau phenomenon, which will exert theoretical value and practice significance on academic research development of Wushu.
