In late twentieth century, the rapid development of China’s economy initiated a major change in China’s social structure, interpersonal communication patterns and relationships as well. In recent years, a large number of social groups bursted into existence, it has changed the traditional way of life both in urban and rural areas. As a new type of social relations, far beyond the blood, Interest-related groups came into existence far beyond the traditional understanding of geography-based, blood-based, or business-based relations, due to which great impacts on social relationships were, and still are takeing place. This reshearch selects square dance enthusiast group----the most famously known interest-related groups, which are emerging across the country now in both urban and rural areas as an sample study. And we choose the Red Star Square dance group in Baiyin city as a typical case study. We apply a variety of research methods and make an attempt to describe the sample group, especially their interactive process objectively. We argues that the reason why square dance is widely spread in rural areas is mainly a result of the influences of migrant workers. The study found that most people participate this hobby group maily owe to two reasons: on the one hand, being a result of the invitation of initiators, and on the other hand, being a result of the monotonous style of rural life.Square dance as an objective phenomenon, according to the theory of interaction, makes its meaning possible, and makes its meaning perceivable only when the participants interact with each other. Such as the intrinsic symbol of square dance is beneficial to everyone’s health is a result of constructing meaning of group symbolic interaction.Identity is a result of social interaction, which the construction of identity is meaningful. As a kind of leisure lifestyle, square dance constructs the individual self-identity in those groups. According to the views of Social Constructivism, it is a result of interpersonal interaction and linguistic interaction, etc, in the social environment. We also found that both in-gruop and out-group interactions constructed self-identitis. Maybe it could explain why so many people are obsessed with square dance today.
