As the doubts grow more rampant about traditional math teaching where too much ignorance is given to the process of knowledge obtaining and the appeal for the quality-oriented education which emphasizes on the course of students’ self-study and self-discovery becomes stronger, it is an inevitable tendency to pay more attention to the teaching process and criticize the teaching method which emphasizes result. Theoretically, the process should be balanced with the result, since without the process, the efficiency of obtaining the result which is greatly attached to cognitive structure would be low or it would lead to knowledge processing in vain. Therefore, how to handle the relationship between the process and the result in actual teaching has become the focus in the present research.the research methods of the present study are as follows:Firstly, based on an extensive reading of relevant literature, thispaper revises and summarizes the features of the process teaching and the result teaching which are put forward and carried out in recent 30 years. It also describes the research frame of the elements involved in handling the relationship between these two kinds of teaching methods. Still, the present study also takes other student-related elements into consideration such as time, ages, capacity of absorbing knowledge, and the frequency of using the knowledge.Secondly, on the basis of illustrating the general theory with specific teaching cases, the present study attempts to summarize the features in handling the three lesson types including concept course, proposition course and practice course.Lastly, to find out the middle school teachers’ views on the principles in handling the relationship between the teaching process and the teaching result, we design a questionnaire about the teachers’ daily routine teaching activities. Some principles are given on how to handle the relationship based on practice, such as the principle of combining comprehension memory and memory by reflecting, the principle of combining in-class inspiration and after-school exploration and the principle of combining short-term benefit and long-term interests.
