As inquiry-based learning is clearly advocated in National Medium- and long-term Plan for Education Reform and Development (2010-2020), it has become the focus of research and practice for educational researchers and abundant results have been achieved under traditional conditions. However, despite the fact that the rise of wireless network and mobile technologies has provided favorable material basis and technological environment for inquiry-based learning, research into inquiry-based learning in the new environment is relative weak. Therefore, it is of great value to research into how to conduct inquiry-based learning by reasonably utilizing mobile technologies, with the aim to improve learning outcomes and reform teaching.First, abundant literature related to mobile learning and inquiry-based learning has been collected and consulted; the characteristics of mobile technologies and inquiry-based learning have been analyzed from multiple levels to discover the correspondence points between the two and the relevant concepts, theoretical basis and technological basis are discussed in detail. Then, based on the analysis of the current status of application and advantages of mobile phone- and two dimensional code-based mobile technologies in the education, the general idea of inquiry-based learning with the support of mobile technologies is proposed and the application models and advantages of inquiry-based learning activities in the enhanced learning environment constructed with mobile phones, wireless network and two-dimensional codes is summed up; meanwhile, the design process of inquiry-based learning activities with the support of mobile technologies is expounded thoroughly. Based on the application models of inquiry-based learning activities in the enhanced learning environment, the learning content is selected and inquiry-based learning activities with the support of mobile technologies are designed; afterwards, they are put into practice in automobile repair courses. The effects of inquiry-based learning activities with the support of mobile technologies are analyzed based on the data collected by way of questionnaires, interview with the students and other methods. Finally, the paper draws the following conclusions:1. Based on the different aspects of the application of two-dimensional codes in learning, the inquiry-based learning models with the support of mobile technologies are divided into the following three:inquiry-based learning based on new learning materials, inquiry-based learning based on classroom interactions and inquiry-based learning based on real context.2. The design of inquiry-based learning activities with the support of mobile technologies has achieved a high degree of satisfaction, because the enhanced learning environment constructed with mobile phones, wireless network and two-dimensional codes has provided favorable study environment for the students and the seamless resources acquisition and reasonable application of support in learning activities provide important assistance for inquiry-based learning.3. The inquiry-based learning activities with the support of mobile technologies can enhance the learners’awareness of the context, stimulate the learners’initiative to inquire, improve their interest and strengthen to certain extent their learning of knowledge, thereby strengthening their learning results.
