This research project aimed to investigate interaction in the classroom between student and their teachers and to identify some characteristics of effective teaching and learning. The research explored events in the classroom and relationships between students and their teachers, and students and their classmate.Researches show that classroom interaction plays a vital role in the second language learning. In the recent two or three decades about second language acquisition and language teaching research, many people focus on how to analyze the features of classroom interaction and what the relationship between those features and language learning. Observations and analyze of the classroom interaction in rural middle school can make up the deficiency of lack of attention in English teaching. What‘s more, to find out the advantages and disadvantages in classroom interaction as well as the reasons can provide some suggestions for its development.Based on the above purpose, related theories and existing framework, this thesis mainly analyzes the classroom interaction types, frequency and distribution of teacher‘s and students‘ turns, teacher‘s feedback(simple feedback, feedback with a comment, feedback with follow-up questions). Through the classroom observation, recording and transcription, the results are as followed:For the interaction types, it is a teacher-fronted class dominated by teacher-class interaction. Teacher initiates and students respond. From the aspect of turn-taking, the quantity of teacher‘s turns is much more than students‘, covers about 62%. Student-initiated interactions are rare. As for the feedback, the teacher prefers to simple feedback with one or two words. She rarely makes comments or put up one more questions about students‘ answers. But students can benefit more from the feedback with a comment and feedback with follow-up questionsThe above findings provide instructions to language teaching in rural middle school. First, teachers need to pay more attention to the communication with student in the classroom and create better environment and atmosphere for language learning. At the same time, teachers should be more professional with the subject and utilize proper teaching skills to guide students‘ learning. What‘s more, in order to improve teaching achievement, the school needs to strengthen the infrastructure construction and hold more training programs to strengthen the students‘-centered belief.
