As a high-tech in education environment, VR can promote learner to independently study knowledge with computer or cooperate with others by means of computer. VR has used many technologies such as interaction and human computer interface. In such a virtual learning system, learners can get real learning experiences as well as form a knowledge system of their own. Especially for inquiry learning, usi ng VR to develop virtual learning environment can resolve many problems that learne rs face many disadvantages in the limited time and space factors, such as "cramming education". Meanwhile learners can operate their study schedule according to their dif ferent learning foundation, at the same time, the virtual environment is helpful for lea rners to explore the development of ability.Therefore, based on the independent inqui ry learning, the implementation and effect of VR research has an important practical s ignificance.This thesis has addressed the following three issues:First, the concept, characteristics and application of VR. Through comparing the application situation of VR home and abroad, we analyze the research direction and the problems that should be paid attention to. Then we describe the theory foundation self exploration and technology support for the realization of VR.Second, the design of independent inquiry learning based on VR. By choosing a specific case we analyze and design the virtual learning environment. This paper explains in detail the use of Virtools engine,the VR software and the method of realizing the virtual self inquiry learning mode.Third, the application research of VR learning environment in independent inquiry. Application evaluation of design results embodies the significance of VR in inquiry learning environment.The main structure of this essay composes of 6 chapters:Chapterl, it introduces the background and significance of topics, and the present VR research situation at home and abroad. Then it puts forward the research content and method in this paper; Chapter2, it introduces the basic concept, characteristics and types of VR, and main application VR in the field of education environment. Next, it analyze some advantages and disadvantages in education; Chapter3, it illustrates the theory foundation and technology support of VR in the independent inquiry learning. Meanwhile based on VR in the independent inquiry learning design principle application; Chapter4, By designing virtual learning instance "DNA replication" we have achieved independent inquiry learning based on VR; Chapter 5, using the example of VR, through the questionnaire survey, we have explored the specific application process and found effect of independent inquiry research; Chapter6, we made a summary of the essay, pointed out the deficiency and looked forward to the future.
