The comprehensive qua lity of college students, the constructor and successor of socialist modernization, has a direct influence on the future development of C hina. As an important constituent part of quality-oriented education in colleges and universities, ideological and political course plays an irreplaceable role in college students’ formation of the correct outlook on the world, life and value. As the dominant power of this course, ideological and political teachers bear compelling responsibility of properly organizing and executing the course. The improvement of these teachers’ humanistic quality is of great significance to reinforce the timeliness of ideological and political course, and exert the role of ideological and political education as the main channel. Therefore, how to improve ideological and political teachers’ humanistic quality becomes the top priority in current ideological and political work.On the basis of the existing research results, the requirements toward the quality of college teachers in the new era are integrated, and the connotation of the humanistic quality of ideological and political teachers in colleges and universities is summarized in this paper. In accordance with relevant theories, the basic content of the humanistic quality of ideological and political teachers is constructed from the perspective of the previously summarized connotation. Moreover, a research is conducted on the current situation of the humanistic quality of ideological and political teachers in college and universities based on the constructed content. Based on the research data, ideological and political teachers’ deficiency in humanistic quality is pointed out. The main causes of such deficiency are analyzed from three dimensions, namely, the society, school and individual. In light of the analysis of the causes of such deficiency, channels of developing ideological and political teachers’ humanistic quality are mainly discussed from three aspects, which are institutional perfection, environment optimization and individual consciousness. To be more specific, the three elements “institutional guarantee, environment construction and individual’s endeavors” constitute the main channels of developing the humanistic quality of ideological and political teachers.As the research goes deeper, it is found out that the humanistic quality of ideological and political teachers in colleges and universities is a very extensive topic that includes very rich convent. Improving the humanistic quality of ideological and political teachers can realize teachers’ comprehensive development. More importantly, it can reinforce the construction of the ideological and political teaching body, enhance the timeliness of ideological and political teaching, exert the role of ideological and political education in colleges and universities as the main channel, continuously cultivate highly-competent talents with perfected personality and good virtues, and drive the sound development of the education cause in China.
