The new Senior High English Curriculum Standard has clearly stated:"The fundamental objective of the course is to develop students’ comprehensive ability of using language. Form a comprehensive ability of using language based on language skills, language knowledge, emotional attitudes, learning strategies and cultural awareness on the integrated development of literacy." With the aim to really cultivate students’ comprehensive ability of using language, teachers should help students extend time and space for students’ oral English acquisition, learning from the students’ real life and the personal language experience in order to promote students to learn oral English voluntarily and train them to have the English thinking gradually. This thesis attempts to provide some useful methods for the English teaching reform of the China grounded on the the study of extensive spoken English teaching in high schools to improve students’ English language ability of using.First, the thesis puts forward to expand the subject high school oral English teaching, separately from the specific requirements of the English Reformation, the internal reflect of the new curriculum standards and the inherent shortcomings of our high school English teaching in three aspects. Also, it explains the purpose and significance of research, defines the core concepts of the extensive spoken English teaching in high schools and tells the differences between this extensive teaching and the extensive curriculum. On the basis of the compilation of relevant research literature at home and abroad,it discusses the theoretical basis of extensive spoken English Teaching in high schools to provide theoretical support for the development of research respectively from the two aspects of linguistics and psychology in the first chapter. And it proposes the implementation of the principles of extensive spoken English Teaching in high schools:the principle of the main activities; the principle of opening up and flexibility; the principle of content interesting, the principle of diversity and creativity.The second chapter of this thesis specifically demonstrated on the practice of extensive spoken English Teaching in high schools by through the mufti-level teaching cases to discuss with the teaching goal, teaching content, teaching methods, teaching activities and teaching evaluation and other aspects.Finally, this thesis has been drawn to the conclusion and reflection of the research from two aspects of teachers and students. It suggests that teachers should pay attention to expand the field of vision, focus on introspection and insist on learning as well as teaching should be student-oriented on the purpose of developing student to exchange attitude, cultivating students in favor of context perception and spoken English learning strategies.
