Extracurricular reading activity is an important part of reading teaching. With the promotion of new curriculum reform, it has become one characteristic of the new reform to strengthen the teaching of extracurricular reading. However, the development of network technology has changed students’ reading way. These changes make the value of extracurricular reading rediscovered. Ordinary High School Chinese Curriculum Standard also puts forward new requirements on the teaching of extracurricular reading i.e. expanding reading scope and increasing reading quantity. But according to the results of the survey, the current teaching of extracurricular Chinese reading is still at a weak position in the practice of Chinese teaching; it has not played its original effect. At present, the extracurricular Chinese reading in high schools of Hainan still has some problems, such as blind reading, poor reading plan, and poor selectivity, students haven’t formed a good reading habit, and their reading quality is not high.
