There are a considerable number of classic books in China, which are living proof of more than 5 thousand years of great Chinese civilization. Under today’s diversified cultural backgrounds, the educators are giving emphasis on popularization of classic books among students. As stated in the Curriculum Standards for Chinese Language, students should be able to apprehend simple Classical Chinese with the help of dictionaries and memorize at least 240 poems and 80 poems in 7-9 grades. On March 26,2014, the Ministry of Education issued the Guideline on Education on Classical Chinese Culture, which provides theoretical support for education on Classical Chinese Culture.There are 5 junior high schools for the Han people in the city of Yanji, the reading class of Classic Chinese Cultures is undergoing great momentum in a comprehensive way. Considering this, the thesis conducts relevant research on the particular situation, using such methods as Survey Research, Data-collecting Research, and interviews. The purpose of the thesis is to understand the status quo of and achievements in the reading of Chinese Classic Books among the abovementioned school students, on the basis of which, laying out effective methods to improve their reading skills and to form a habit of reading Chinese Classic Books, In conclusion, cultivating these habits will enable them to apprehend more ancient Chinese poems and then getting to know the evolution of Chinese literature and ideas. All these will help them understand the Chinese national spirit and form certain cultural beliefs.The research is carried out mainly from such two aspects as achievements and existing problems, In the aspect of achievements, the active action from the schools and strong support from the parents contribute to the favorable environment of reading for the students. The content includes a wide range of subjects, such as Jing, Shi, Zi and Ji. The teachers also employ diversified methods such as dot circling to achieve the set target. In the aspect of existing problems, the thesis mainly explains from such four perspectives as the influence of the Internet on the reading of Chinese Classic Books, library collections, the reading of the teachers and the reading habits of the students.In conclusion, in accordance with the reading status quo of Chinese Classic Books in the city of Yanji and according to the Curriculum Standards for Chinese Language and Guideline on Education on Classical Chinese Culture, relevant methods are laid out with a view of promoting the development of the reading of Chinese Classic Books. The school libraries should enrich their book collections; the teachers should improve their own cultural knowledge, recommending to the students more suitable Chinese Classic Books. Besides, the teachers should also help them form reading habits by making out reading plans, taking reading notes to improve their reading skills.
