Through a piano teacher’s perspective herself, a review of six years amateur piano learning a13year old child "Dudu", and in-depth thinking of this process, author reveals the importance of active self-practice, to make the children and teachers to inspire.Dudu’s piano learning process is divided into two stages. The first stage is the first continuous three years. During this stage, Dudu experienced ABRSM2nd level piano examination, CMA3th level examinations, children’s instrumental ensemble public performances, ABRSM5th level piano examination. The second stage is the next three years of holiday piano learning. During this stage, Dudu experienced ABRSM5th level music theory examination, ABRSM8th level piano examination, two exams of ABRSM8th level piano. Now Dudu is preparing for the2015April Emperor piano eight level third exam.Through sorting the observation and memory, and interviewing on Dudu and his parents, author is aware of that Dudu’s piano learning process is not as good as she feel. The narrative begins with "I don’t want to take the examination" family dialogue. Author can strongly feel that Dudu and his family’s mood swings because of different views of piano examination. Fortunately, contradictions do not appear among the author, Dudu, and Dudu’s parents for two failed8th level exams, which comes from the trust between each other, especially parents’trust for teacher. With this trust, author has more important responsibility, which is that she should properly reflect on her own teaching process for Dudu. After the narrative of Dudu’s experience of piano learning in the second chapter, the third chapter refines some key problems encountered during the Dudu’s piano learning process:why the child need to learn the piano? How the child learn piano? What parents pay for child’s piano learning? Is the child happy when he learns piano? Through the thinking on these questions, this thesis reveals that the active self-practicing is not only unique channel to obtain music skills, but also the best standard for testing piano learning happiness. Finally, author hopes herself and every child be able to "do your best" and grow up healthy and happy accompanied by music.
