The Study Of College Students’ Network Political Participation

The widely spread and application of the Internet greatly expanded the citizen’svoice, made everyone has a "microphone" and everyone can participate in onlinepolitics. College students, the social group who contact network most convenientlyand frequently, have naturally become an important subject of network politicalparticipation and should not be ignored. Based on the questionnaire survey of256college students from seven universities in Zhejiang province, combining within-depth interviews of12college students and using SPSS20.0social statisticssoftware, this paper concluded that because of the physical and psychologicalparticularity of college students, their network political participation presented thefollowing features: strong will of network political participation; low participationlevel; Lack of self-discipline; and blindness in political participation. Also, with thehelp of regression analysis, this paper concluded that college students’ networkpolitical participation is obviously affected by gender, political affiliation, major,school level, and understanding of the need of political participation. This paperpointed out that the positive function of college students’ network politicalparticipation for the development of society and its own are basically as follows: it isbeneficial to the establishment of social early warning mechanism; helpful to expandthe power of network supervision; conductive to college students’ interests expressionand aggregation and useful to arouse students’ subject consciousness. But at the sametime, college students’ network political participation also has certain negativefeatures: easy to cause the expansion of illegal political participation; easy to causecollege students rely too much on network. Based on the investigation and researchand from the perspective of college students themselves and society, this paperproposed several suggestions to correctly guide online political participation ofcollege students. From society perspective, society should improve the system ofrelevant laws and regulations, standardize the order of network operation, strengthenthe regulation of network to maintain a healthy network environment, strengthen theconstruction of network morality, and improve college students’ consciousness ofnetwork political participation and self-discipline. For college students themselves,they need to develop right subject consciousness to form a clear political responsibility and obligation; widen the scope of political knowledge to improve theability of political participation; improve the level of political thought to enhance theirability of information screening.
