Compulsory education geography curriculum standards (2011edition)advocate learning useful geography for life. Guide the student to findgeographical problems in life and improve the quality of life and taste andemphasize to cultivate students’ curiosity about the geography things andphenomena to improve the students’ interest in geography learning andaesthetic temperament and interest of geographical environment. But for along time, geography in junior middle school has not been taken seriously dueto the exam score is poor, which result in poor teaching effect.Regional resources contain a rich knowledge of geography and it close tothe practical, easily accepted by students. During the teaching, the teacherselects targeted local materials which not only can arouse the enthusiasm ofstudents on learning and self consciousness, but also can obtain the bettereffect of classroom teaching.This article mainly adopted literature method, inductive method, dataanalysis and questionnaire survey method to cultivate junior high schoolstudents how to make use of local geographical knowledge to stimulate thestudy interest of students, how to connect the geography knowledge familiardaily life, how to combine local knowledge with the geography teaching which make the student love, fall in love with geography class. Thispaper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is introduction. it is about selected topic background,research current situation, purpose, significance and research ideas andmethods, and also the related theoretical basis, including defining compulsoryeducation geography curriculum standards (2011edition) and the definition oflocal geography.The second chapter is mainly related to the survey analysis on thegeography study interest in junior high school. The author made the surveyanalysis on learning geography and study interesting. The result shows that itis a good way to cultivate the geography study interest using localgeographical knowledge.The third chapter mainly contains the local knowledge on Wulanchabuand geography knowledge in junior high school students. Author made asummary analysis on geographic in Wulanchabu and a brief analysis of themain characteristics of geography curriculum in junior high school.The fourth chapter mainly talked the strategies on cultivating thegeography study interest using local geographical knowledge.First, the authoranalyzed the reasons why the local geographical knowledge was usedincultivating students’ interest in learning geographical in junior high school.Then the concrete strategiesshow to cultivate students’ interest in learninggeographical using the local geographical knowledge was raised. Finally, the author cited a combination of local knowledge of geography teaching andachieved good results in the case of teaching.The fifth chapter mainly includes the conclusion. A brief overview wasmade on how to use local geography knowledge in junior high schoolstudents to cultivate the learning interest: first: definite to use the content oflocal geography knowledge. Second, make a class teaching lively and sparkcuriosity and thirst for knowledge of students. Third, stimulate interest usinglocal change phenomenon. Fourth, increase the interest using local area map.Fifth, strengthen the interest though extending local knowledge. Sixth,develop interests by using local knowledge skills on transferring. Seventh,emphasis on evaluating the learning process and methods and encouragestudents to participate in activities in class. Finally, the author states thedeficiencies and the need for further investigation and the direction of furtherresearch.
