According to educational policy of syncretizing civil and martial concepts and educational purpose of educating five domains simultaneously, the past decades have witnessed certain advancement and achievement of military education in senior high schools of Taiwan since it was thoroughly implemented in1953. By elaborating history of military education in senior high schools of Taiwan and based on difference of educational contents, the thesis classified it into three stages:the period of military training education, the period of general military studies, and the period of All-out defense education. In order to promote the development of military education in senior high schools, the system of military education has been improved constantly in Taiwan and certain system has been established specially for supervision and assessment; curriculum reform has been carrying out according to continuous changes of social situations and optimizing teaching contents of military education; persistently enhancing standards of recruiting and appointing military education instructors and cultivate a group of qualified instructors.This thesis demonstrates the following viewpoints:military education in senior high schools of Taiwan effectively enhances students’comprehensive abilities and achieves students’overall development in ethics, intellect, physical, social skills and aesthetics; successfully train qualified teams of military education instructors and efficiently guard for the safety of schools; smoothly promote the establishment and development of the discipline of military education, perfecting the curriculum system of senior high schools. However, there also are various problems, such as unclearness of legal foundations in implementing military education, implicit orientation of military education instructors and lack of appropriate curriculum integration. Specifically speaking, military education, which involves anti-communism hues and Taiwan secession tendency, hinders students’ natural progress. Currently, military education in senior high schools of mainland of China should draw on the experiences of Taiwan in the regard of enhancing students’ comprehensive ability through military education. Furthermore, it aims to fulfill the basic task of strengthening morality education and cultivating talents of overall development in ethics, intellect, physics and aesthetics.
