The current situation and trend of social structure reflects the comparative stable social relationship made of social factors and relationships, and it also change the developing direction and potential of the city. The universities are located in the city, and have an effect on the city’s population structure, family structure and employment structure. Besides, the universities’development is restricted by different factors of the city’s social structure. The research on interaction between the university and social structure of the city, is not only help us to widen the viewpoint of the university and tnl city’s interaction, deepen understanding of the university’s functiong in social service, and also help to realize trend of city’s social structure. To survive and develop in this competitive society, the university and the city should comprehend the form and manifestations of interaction correctly, seek ways of interaction and make the interaction paly an active role.Dalian lies on the eastern coast of China, and has a great economic strength and pleasant environment. As one of china15vice provincial level cities, Dalian’s scmprehensive competitiveness in economic development level and social civilization is stronger.Besides, there are31colleges and universities located in Dalian, which is a Non-capital city, including Dalian University of Technology and Dalian Maritime University. The interaction between this university and the city has a long history, therefore, taking Dalian as a case study is a typical and representative choice.This article introduces significance and methods of study, research status at home and abroad and relative concepts. And the article tries to build a analytical model of interaction between the university and social structure of the city, which is based on the theory of interaction between the university and the city and education’s social effects and basic analytic dimensions of the city’s population structure, family structure and employment structure. On this basis, This article selects Dalian as a case study and collects the data of universities and social structure in Dalian during1998-2011, checking the rationality of the model by SPSS analysis software. The inspection result shows that the university and the population structure, family structure, employment structure of Dalian have significant correlation, validating the rationality of model. The article puts forward some revelations: based on the city’s development, the university should guide city’s culture construction and promote population quality of the city; join solution of problems in city and promote the improvement of the city’s social structure; adjust the structure of higher education to adapt to the change of city’s industrial and employment structure. The city should value city planning and promote function of the agglomeration effect of universities; encourage the establishment of different types and levels of colleges and universities; seek cooperation with university and innovative cooperation mechanism to improve competitiveness of city’s social structure.
