There is a rapid increase of higher education in China today, and higher education develops on a large scale. But there are some problems arising at the same time. One of the most serious problems is the non equalization in different regions. Now the total resource of higher education is in short, moreover, the high-quality resource is in scarcity. So it is essential to adjust the regional distribution. The national long-term educational reform and development (2010-2020) is published, which stated it is necessary to adjust to the requirement of society and economic, establish adjustment enforcement and optimize the regional distribution. So we should adjust the regional distribution of higher education, in which way higher education can become driving force of regional economic. So the regional economic and higher education can interact efficiently.America is one of the strongest countries in higher education. It achieved Mass higher education in1940s, and achieved popularize higher education after30years. Equitable regional distribution of higher education leads to rapid development. So it is meaningful to study on higher educational distribution of America. Not only can we learn how educational resource distributes throughout the country, but can learn regional higher education. Besides, we can reveal the evolvement of higher education distribution of America, and it can give enlingtment of higher education of our country.Based on statistics from Digest of National Education, statistical analysis is used to research on higher education distribution. Based on enrollment of higher education of America, the years from1950to2010were divided into five periods:the earlier and the mid-term of mass higher education; the later mass higher education; the earlier popularize higher education; the mid-term of popularize higher education; the later popularize higher education. Then higher education distribution in each of the five periods was researched. The research will be carried out in the following three dimensions:data distribution; absolute and relative increment; absolute and relative disparity. Based on higher education distribution of each period, the characteristics and tendency of evolvement will be summarized. The following conclusion was obtained:the development of mass higher education is the fastest; the development of popularize higher education is steady comparatively. In the period of mass higher education, the western America develops fastest; in the period of popularize higher education, the southern America develops fastest. The absolute disparity boarded and relative disparity reduced. The regional scale of higher education and economics and population is becoming more intimately.Finally, based on higher education distribution of America, the suggestions about higher education distribution of our country are put forward:on one hand, from the aspect of the development period of higher education; on the other hand, from the aspect of GDP and population.
